About the Eco-Container Cabin

In 2008 I started building this house out of two forty-foot by eight foot shipping containers. We were finding our house too small to host guests, so I decided to try building one of the popular shipping container homes on a shoe string. I learned a lot and had fun in the process. At first it was pretty basic. I kept improving it, letting in more light with large windows in the living area and French doors that open onto a nice covered deck. The interior is sheathed in pine that I cut myself. A gas fireplace gives it a cozy glow in winter and a heat pump provides plenty of additional heat and air conditioning as needed.

Most guests come to disconnect. We stocked this cabin with lots of games, jigsaw puzzles and books. For the electronically addicted, we recently added a TV with Netflix access over fiber optic WiFi.

The single bedroom features a double bed plus a single on a loft above. Additional sleeping space comes from a queen sized sleeper sofa in the living area... That makes five. We also have folding mattresses in case a larger group wants to enjoy a lot of togetherness.

The guesthouse features a full sized kitchen equipped with full sized appliances and other useful cooking and dining ware.

Although the guesthouse is located just across the breezeway from our main house, the French doors, deck and parking are oriented in the opposite direction, overlooking a small pond to optimize privacy.

Disembark the stairs from the deck onto a trail that follows a lovely creek through the woods and to spectacular Miller Falls. You’re gonna love it!

Container home

Huge window in dining/living room area puts you right inside the rolling woods. There was nothing we needed-they really think of everything! However, the backside of the space is their carport so you do hear that. I’d like to try the glamping tent-it sits atop the waterfall!

Super peaceful getaway with everything you needed right there. Just sit on the porch and listen to the birds and silence. It's exactly what was needed. Walking my dog around at night was awesome. Super quiet and reminded me of my early days in the woods in upstate NY. Grocery store a few minutes away. Just make sure you follow the email directions to the property or you WILL get lost.

The eco-cabin was a great way to have access to local trails and have a nice place to stay with a kitchen, full bath and comfy beds at the end of the day. We enjoyed the fire pit out back and the porch for morning coffee (would have loved some more comfortable seating inside and outside!) Our hosts were wonderful about checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and showed us around the grounds. We would love to come back to stay in some of the more private and funky sites on the property!
